LGA responds to London Councils’ adult social care report
Following the publication of a report on adult social care by London Councils, the Local Government Association (LGA) have praised the efforts being taken by councils to make a positive difference.
The London Councils report was produced as a follow-up to their original green paper – ‘The lives we want to lead’ – which was published a little over a year ago, in response to the delays to the publication of the Government’s own promised adult social care green paper.
With the Government’s green paper still delayed further, London Councils felt it necessary to update and publish their newest report.

Addressing the new report’s publication, chairman of the LGA’s Community Wellbeing Board, councillor Ian Hudspeth, said: "This report shows that councils are making a positive difference to people’s lives and saving money for the NHS by providing adult social care to all those who need it.
“The adult social care funding crisis is having an impact on older and disabled people across the country with services nationally facing a £1 billion funding gap next year, rising to £3.6 billion by 2025.
“If councils are to continue helping people who rely on vital care and support to lead the lives they want to lead, they need funding certainty for both the immediate and long-term.
“We urge the Government to address the growing funding gap in the forthcoming Spending Round and to propose a long term sustainable solution as soon as possible. Local government stands ready to host cross-party talks to kick-start this process.”
