Solace appoints new interim chair
Solace has announced the appointment of a new interim chair as its existing chair prepares to stand down.
Gavin Jones, chief executive of Essex county council, will become chair until the AGM in October, whilst Jane Robinson of Gateshead council, the existing chair, is leaving to work in the academic sector.
Welcoming the appointment, Jones said that the role of Solace, which represents local authority chief executives and senior managers, is more important than ever in light of the challenges facing the public sector.
Jones said: “With the public sector facing such unparalleled challenges and opportunities to reform, an organisation such as Solace that brings us together is more important than ever.”
Mark Rogers, the president of Solace, recently wrote to new prime minister Theresa May urging her to accelerate financial devolution and involve local councils in negotiating the UK’s exit from the European Union.
Jones has previously played a leading role on the Solace in Business board.
