Solace appoints Graeme McDonald as first MD
Solace has been appointed Graeme McDonald to the new role of managing director, and will oversee the society and its commercial recruitment arm, Solace in Business.
McDonald joined Solace in 2011 and before his promotion was the director of Solace. He had previously racked up 15 years of experience working in local government, including the London Borough of Ealing, Craven District Council and Leeds City Council.
Alongside McDonald’s appointment Solace also announced that it had recruited Piali Das Gupta as its head of policy starting from 3 July. Before joining the society, Das Gupta had worked as assistant chief executive of Birmingham City Council after working for the LGA.
McDonald said: “We are building an exciting future at Solace and have a strong team to deliver an ambitious programme.
“We want to work with others to support managerial leaders throughout their careers.
“Piali will help us do that by ensuring the sector is well placed in Whitehall, and that the knowledge and experience of our members can impact positively on national thinking.”
Das Gupta added that having served as a senior officer at a council, “I believe strongly that Solace brings a distinctive lens that has a vital contribution to make to future policy debates”.
“I’m looking forward to helping Solace build on its strong track record to have even more impact,” she said.
