Progression pay in the Civil Service to be scrapped
The chancellor has finalised plans to abolish progression pay across the Civil Service.
The plans were announced in yesterday’s Budget document. It states: “Since Autumn Statement 2014, the government has made good progress in driving efficiency across a number of areas. Budget 2015 confirms that proposals have been agreed with all departments to abolish progression pay across the Civil Service.”
George Osborne previously set out his ambition to scrap time-served progression pay for Whitehall officials at the time of the 2013 spending review.
Unions have lashed out at the move. A PCS spokesman told PSE: "Not content with cutting living standards for civil servants by up to 20% during this government, ministers want to hold down pay for years to come."
