ETZ Ltd, the not-for-profit company leading North East Scotland’s energy transition, has secured a £17.3 million investment from the UK Government to fast-track the development of its flagship Energy Transition Zone in Aberdeen.
The funding, confirmed by Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander during a visit to Aberdeen, will help transform land adjacent to the newly redeveloped Aberdeen South Harbour into a world-class hub for offshore wind and clean energy industries.
The Energy Transition Zone is strategically located next to deepwater berths at Aberdeen South Harbour, which are purpose-built to support offshore wind manufacturing and logistics. The UK Government’s latest investment will be used to prepare the site for clean energy businesses, encouraging co-location, innovation, and supply chain growth.
This development is expected to position Aberdeen as a leading hub for offshore renewable energy, attracting inward investment and creating skilled green jobs.
The £17.3 million boost builds on the UK Government’s previous £9.7 million investment in ETZ Ltd, which included:
- £5 million for the Innovation Campus – a facility to develop and scale up green energy technologies
- A new Energy Transition Skills Hub, featuring:
	- A state-of-the-art welding academy
- An advanced manufacturing zone
- A digital training centre for future technologies

Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander said:
“The UK Government’s £17.3 million investment in Aberdeen’s Energy Transition Zone will create jobs and bring down bills. This investment will accelerate a renewables hub which will help to deliver a thriving renewables sector in and around Aberdeen.”

ETZ Ltd’s mission is to ensure North East Scotland remains a global leader in energy excellence, with a thriving low-carbon economy and a world-class supply chain. The company is private sector-led and operates on a not-for-profit basis, reinvesting in the region’s long-term energy future.
This funding also marks a renewed commitment to delivering on previously announced but undelivered pledges, reinforcing the UK Government’s drive to cut emissions, lower energy bills, and create sustainable jobs.
