The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has awarded Thanet District Council significant funding to help rough sleepers.
The funding comes from the Rough Sleeping initiative and aims to provide local councils with long term funding to ensue that those who are rough sleeping, or at risk of rough sleeping, are supported.
Thanet District Council will benefit from the awarding off £3,808,270 over the course of three years, allowing them to plan further ahead to try and meet the government’s aim of ending rough sleeping by 2025. It will also help the council provide earlier intervention to ensure that vulnerable people don’t become rough sleepers, as well as support those that are already sleeping rough into accommodation.
RISE, a multi-agency team, brings together support workers, partner organisations, and staff from the council’s homeless and landlord liaison services teams and they are delivering the council’s support for rough sleepers.
Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Jill Bayford, said;
“”This funding is critical in allowing us to provide the support that, unfortunately, is needed by increasing numbers of people across the district. The rising cost of rent,, utilities and food are likely to mean that we see an even higher need for homeless support in the future. This three—year funding will help us plan further ahead, and to put the best possible help in place for everyone that needs it.”
