Norwich City Council has unveiled its five-year vision for a thriving city full of ambition after months of consultation with over 900 organisations and individuals.
Everybody from residents and tenants, all the way to businesses and those from the voluntary and creative sectors have contributed to the ‘We are Norwich’ plan.
The feedback has led to five core goals, which are to foster:
- An open and modern council
- A prosperous Norwich
- A fair Norwich
- A climate responsive Norwich
- A future-proof Norwich
“We set out to do things differently…”
The progress to achieving those goals will be benchmarked through a new performance framework, according to Norwich City Council.
Councillor Mike Stonard, the city council’s leader, said: “We set out to do things differently by consulting more widely than ever before to develop a plan that directly responds to the challenges and aspirations of the people of Norwich.”
The priorities are a product of both what was said during the consultation as well as existing local, regional and national strategies.
The targets will not be achievable in isolation, according to the council, so part of the plan will include strengthening partnerships and co-developing solutions.
“The approach of this plan is very different to those that have gone before, it doesn’t just focus on what the council can achieve and be responsible for alone but instead what we can achieve by working together as a city,” added Cllr Stonard.
