£1bn PPP announced to help councils build new homes
A new public-private partnership has been launched to build 10,000 new homes around the country.
The Housing Growth Partnership, backed by the Homes and Communities Agency and Lloyds Banking Group, announced the £1bn New Communities Partnership with Kier Living and the Cheyne Social Property Impact Fund today (3 May).
It will allow local authorities to build homes suitable for their communities, including a mix of rental and sale developments, as well as first-time homes and housing for key workers, the elderly and the disabled.
Andy Hulme, CEO of the Housing Growth Partnership, said: “The Housing Growth Partnership was formed to address the challenge of housing supply and affordability in Britain today.
“Working alongside Kier Living and Cheyne Capital through the ‘New Communities Partnership’ should stimulate further growth in residential development projects and enhance access to affordable housing. The alliance will also complement our core purpose to accelerate home building throughout the UK.”
The news comes as the much-criticised Housing and Planning Bill, which aims to increase the availability of affordable housing, was returned to the House of Commons after undergoing extensive changes in the House of Lords.
