Rutland County Council appoint Chief Executive

Rutland County Council has appointed Mark Andrews to the role of Chief Executive Officer (Head of Paid Services).

Mr Andrews was appointed as the authority’s interim Chief Executive in June 2020 and following a 12-month interim period, the council’s Chief Officer Appointment Committee recommended that he be appointed permanently to the role of Chief Executive.

This appointment was officially confirmed by a unanimous vote at a special full council meeting on Monday 7 June.

Commenting, Leader of Rutland Council, Councillor Oliver Hemsley said:

“As a council, we continue to work hard for residents while responding to the coronavirus pandemic and adjusting to further cuts in our government funding.

“Mark has led the council’s services extremely well during this turbulent period. Add to this his passion for Rutland and extensive experience at the highest level of local government, and his permanent appointment as Chief Executive Officer is fully warranted.”

Mr Andrews added: “I’m hugely proud of the work that our officers have done over the past 12 months, not least in response to the pandemic.

“There is still lots to do to support Rutland’s recovery from covid and make sure services can keep meeting the needs of local people at what is still a very challenging time.

“I am grateful for the support of our elected members and look forward to working with residents to secure a bright future for our county.”

Ep 51. Diversity, equality and representation with Stuart Love, Chief Executive of Westminster City Council

It is the role of local government leaders to make the decisions that will best deliver for the communities that they represent. That much is obvious.

How can they do this, however, if they are not accurately representative of those very communities?

Great strides have been made in ensuring that everyone, regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender, or social class is represented in some way within local government. Chief Executive of Westminster City Council Stuart Love joins host Dan Benn to talk about why this work is important, the different work that is being done in Westminster, and how his background influences his stance on equality and diversity.
