£60m upgrade to Devon’s A361

The Department for Transport have announced £60m to upgrade Devon’s A361, sometimes called the North Devon link road.

The road links Devon to the rest of the UK and also acts as a crucial link between the key economic centres of Bideford and Barnstaple.

Modernisation of the road will help to cut congestion as well as bring a boost to the local economy, via tourism, shopping and other business, as well as improve cross-country connectivity by improving access in and out of the South West.

The road will also supports plans for 6,700 new homes to be built in the area.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said:

“I’m delighted to announce this funding to upgrade a vital gateway between Devon and the rest of the country. These works will boost connections, cut congestion for drivers and improve people’s quality of life.

“It’s a clear indication of our commitment to levelling up and investing in transport infrastructure. Through these works, we’ll improve people’s ability to travel across the Southwest while providing 1000s with greater access to new homes and new jobs.”

This road upgrade is part of the Government’s levelling-up agenda that has seen various high-traffic roads upgraded to support more traffic and boost the local economy.

Ep 51. Diversity, equality and representation with Stuart Love, Chief Executive of Westminster City Council

It is the role of local government leaders to make the decisions that will best deliver for the communities that they represent. That much is obvious.

How can they do this, however, if they are not accurately representative of those very communities?

Great strides have been made in ensuring that everyone, regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender, or social class is represented in some way within local government. Chief Executive of Westminster City Council Stuart Love joins host Dan Benn to talk about why this work is important, the different work that is being done in Westminster, and how his background influences his stance on equality and diversity.
