The government has confirmed the appointment of a new Minister for Investment, as part of wider plans to drive economic growth and investment in the UK.
Poppy Gustafsson OBE has been named as the person who will head up the Office for Investment, having spent eight years as the Chief Executive Officer of a British cybersecurity company that she founded in 2013. With extensive experience across business, cybersecurity, and finances, Gustafsson has a proven past of growth and expansion.
As she comes into the role, Gustafsson will be a joint minister across the Department for Business and Trade, as well as the Treasury. She is also expected to attend today’s first meeting of the Council of Nations and Regions, alongside the Prime Minister.
Speaking about her appointment, Gustafsson said:
“It is a huge privilege to be appointed as the Minister of Investment and I am excited to get started.
“I have first-hand experience of building and scaling a business here in the UK and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share with the international investment community what I already know to be true; the UK is a great place to do business.”
The new, revamped, Office for Investment will work to promote the UK to outside investors, with this being driven by expansion. This will see it bringing together the Treasury, the Department for Business and Trade, and Number 10 into one joint unit that will streamline the government’s approach to business and investment
Prime Minister Keir Starmer also commented:
“I am delighted to welcome Poppy Gustafsson OBE as our new Investment Minister – an accomplished entrepreneur who brings invaluable experience to the role.
“We’re upgrading the Office for Investment to ensure it is fit for purpose and has the capability it needs to make the UK the first choice for investment and the best place in the world to do business, which is central to our mission to drive growth and make people better off.”
