People using science and technology for innovation

Innovative businesses showcased at new DSIT headquarters

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has invited a number of leading innovation firms to showcase their work at the department’s new headquarters.

As part of a project to champion the UK’s innovation and academia, the department is marking the six-month anniversary of its establishment with offering the chance for businesses and organisations from around the country to exhibit their work. This will give the organisations the opportunity to give their work prominence and visibility to ministers and other decision-makers.

This opportunity will also allow the Department to continue to showcase the best innovation, design, technology and science from around the country, with those selected to exhibit being promoted across social media and at internal events, furthering the highlighting of their work to decision-makers across the public and private sectors.

Michelle Donelan, Science and Technology Secretary, said:

“UK business, universities and research organisations are already world leaders in their fields, from life sciences and engineering biology to quantum computing and AI. To seize on the potential for science and technology to keep our nation secure, our people prosperous, and our plant healthy, it is essential we place this work at the very centre of what we do in government – and hosting them in our new headquarters demonstrates our commitment to working hand-in-hand with the sector while opening up one more avenue for collaboration.

“These exhibitions will give us another opportunity to see first-hand how these technologies are improving the lives of everyone in the UK, and it will give those exhibiting a new platform to showcase their work, right in the heart of government.”

It is important that the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology continues to promote British innovation, as the department forms the leading force as the Prime Minister works to grow the economy and secure the UK’s place as a science superpower. This mission will also help to improve the lives of people across the UK through new innovations that will help to advance health and prosperity.

Aiming to be a science superpower by 2030, the government has identified five ‘technologies of tomorrow’ that will be the most critical to the UK’s growth in the future. These technologies are quantum, AI, Engineering Biology, semiconductors, and future telecoms.

The exhibitions are anticipated to begin at the start of 202, with interested parties being asked to identify how they can help the UK cement its place at the peak of global science.
