Uttlesford District Council appoint interim Chief Executive

Rob Tingling has been appointed as the interim Head of Paid Service and Chief Executive of Uttlesford District Council.

He will take up the role on 1 July to ensure a smooth handover from current Chief Executive Dawn French, who announced her resignation in May and recruitment for a permanent holder is already under way.

Mr Tingling has extensive leadership and local government experience and was Chief Executive of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council for 12 years and was awarded an MBE for services to local government in 2017.

Councillors approved his appointment at a meeting of the authority’s full council following a recommendation by the council’s Appointments Committee.

Commenting, Leader of Uttlesford District Council, Councillor John Lodge said: "I am delighted that Rob has agreed to become our interim Chief Executive. He has a proven track record in local government and brings with him a wealth of expertise and experience.

“I am confident he will provide strong leadership and support to the council as we embark on the search for a permanent Chief Executive."

The Appointments Committee will be responsible for the recruitment of a permanent Chief Executive and will make its recommendations to the authority’s full council.

The interim arrangement will remain in place until the permanent position is filled.

Ep 51. Diversity, equality and representation with Stuart Love, Chief Executive of Westminster City Council

It is the role of local government leaders to make the decisions that will best deliver for the communities that they represent. That much is obvious.

How can they do this, however, if they are not accurately representative of those very communities?

Great strides have been made in ensuring that everyone, regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender, or social class is represented in some way within local government. Chief Executive of Westminster City Council Stuart Love joins host Dan Benn to talk about why this work is important, the different work that is being done in Westminster, and how his background influences his stance on equality and diversity.
