The Welsh Government is supporting communities, and continuing the fight against child poverty, by funding a number of schemes across the country.
Almost £1 million of investment comes as the Welsh Government looks to back projects that support the aims of the Child Poverty Strategy, which outlines how the Welsh Government will work with partners to achieve the goal of tackling child poverty. By supporting these projects, children’s educational outcomes will be enhanced, driving up their employability, and strengthening community resilience.

Welsh Social Justice Secretary Jane Hutt commented:
“Our Child Poverty Strategy responds to what we heard from over 3,300 children, young people and their families, as well as organisations that work with them, about the challenges they are facing when it comes to poverty and the things that would make the biggest difference to their lives.
“The Strategy makes clear that stronger collaboration between organisations working at local and regional levels on tackling poverty is needed. This is exactly what the Empowering Somali Families project sets out to achieve.
“This project, together with all the other pieces of work the Welsh Government is funding throughout Wales, will be key in addressing child poverty.”
Funding is available to support either the strengthening of existing partnerships or to establish new ones.
An example of the funding in practice was seen in person by the Social Justice Secretary, as she visited the Empowering Somali Families project. The funding will support the project to establish three satellite hubs that will help to bring people together and target support to those who need it the most.
Other projects that have been allocated funding for this year include integrated early years support through Carmarthenshire Borough Council, work to identify gaps in support through Wrexham County Borough Council, and boosting financial wellbeing by Ceredigion County Council.
