More than 40,000 jobs have been created or safeguarded across Wales during this government term, thanks to over £600 million in direct investment by the Welsh Government, it was announced today.
As part of this ongoing commitment to building a stronger, fairer, and greener economy, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, Rebecca Evans, has unveiled nearly £10 million in new funding to support close to 700 jobs at businesses across Wales.
Among the latest recipients is Boccard UK Ltd, based in North Wales, which will receive £1.2 million in Economy Futures Funding. The funding will support the company’s move to a larger, digitised manufacturing facility, helping it retain its leading role in the nuclear sector. The investment will safeguard 59 jobs and create over 150 new positions.
In Bridgend, hygiene paper manufacturer WEPA is receiving £8 million to support energy efficiency upgrades and production expansion at its Maesteg site — a move that will safeguard 325 jobs.
Meanwhile, in Clydach Vale, near Tonypandy, £540,000 is being used to bring a previously closed factory back into operation. The site will be run by Coppice, a global food packaging manufacturer, and is expected to create 83 jobs initially, with potential to grow to 150 roles over the next five years.
Rebecca Evans, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, said:
“The Welsh Government is proud that we have supported over 40,000 jobs since the start of this Senedd term through our business support programmes. We have rolled our sleeves up to deliver for businesses, communities, and thousands of workers across Wales – like those here at Boccard, which is exactly the sort of overseas-owned company we are looking to attract at our Investment Summit later this year.
“From direct business support to property investment and long-term regional planning, we are not just supporting businesses and job creation but building the infrastructure and conditions that will enable Welsh businesses to grow, invest, and future-proof their operations.
“We will continue to make Wales a place where good jobs, strong businesses, and thriving communities are the foundation of a stronger, fairer, and greener economy.”

The Welsh Government’s strategic use of loans, equity, and grants is helping businesses innovate, expand, and contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive economy.
