AI thought leaders and innovators are being invited to join a pioneering Artificial Intelligence Taskforce that will shape how AI is developed and deployed across the Liverpool City Region.
The volunteer-led advisory group will help craft a long-term AI strategy, ensuring the technology is used responsibly, effectively and for maximum public benefit. It will also support the UK’s first regional Chief AI Officer, Tiffany St James, in creating a roadmap that positions the City Region as a global leader in AI for Good.
The initiative follows the success of the region’s second AI Summit in October, which showcased world-class expertise and infrastructure, including:
- Digital Innovation Facility
- Virtual Engineering Centre
- Civic Data Cooperative
- The UK’s most powerful supercomputer for industrial R\&D at Sci-Tech Daresbury
Mayor of Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram said:
“I want the Liverpool City Region to be the home of ‘AI for Good’. For me, that’s about innovation that puts us at the heart of the AI revolution, improves the lives of our 1.6 million residents, and creates opportunities for local people and businesses.
“This taskforce will help shape how artificial intelligence is developed and used across our region in a way that’s ethical, inclusive, and of course focused on people.”

Local projects already harnessing AI include piloting AI-powered learning in 45 primary schools, accelerating medical research, and transforming industry.
With growing strengths in quantum computing, the Liverpool City Region is well placed to lead the next generation of AI and data technologies.
The Combined Authority is seeking volunteers with experience in AI research, development, ethics or real-world implementation, as well as sector knowledge in health, education, transport and public services. Successful applicants will join the Taskforce for two years, meeting quarterly in the region, with UK travel expenses reimbursed.
This move is a key part of Mayor Steve Rotheram’s AI ambitions, driving innovation and ensuring AI benefits communities across the region.
