Too many child protection units still failing children – Ofsted
The worst-performing councils for child protection are not improving fast enough, Ofsted says.
The regulator has re-inspected 50 local authorities in the last 16 months, 17 of which were ‘inadequate’ and none ‘excellent’.
Just yesterday, a serious case review into the death of four-year-old Daniel Pelka condemned the agencies that missed chances to protect him from his abusive mother and step-father.
Ofsted’s ‘adequate’ rating, applied to 29 councils, will soon become ‘requires improvement’.
But ADCS chief executive Andrew Webb said: “If you objectively look at the quality of life of children in Britain, the Ofsted judgments aren’t supported.”
