County launches Growth Hub to drive SME innovation

An English local authority has this week launched a scheme to help SMEs in its region develop effective business strategies and grow a culture of innovation at their organisation.

Northamptonshire County Council has started up its ‘Northamptonshire Growth Hub’, which provides a series of workshops that help business leaders develop and grow their strategies.

The sessions will be delivered by a consulting expert with 30 years of experience as a marketer and innovator at a number of big British brands. The Hub is also the product of a collaboration between the authority and the University of Northampton, and will provide a range of free services to businesses at any stage of their development, including one-to-one sessions as well as signposting of companies to the most relevant provision.

“Creating the conditions to allow innovation to flourish in an organisation can bring rapid results to any business that wants to grow,” said Malcolm Johnston, head of enterprise at the Growth Hub.

“That’s why we’re delighted to be able to offer this free workshop which will give some helpful ideas on what can be done to inspire creativity and prepare a strategy to make exciting new ideas a reality.

Devolution, restructuring and widespread service reform: from a journalist’s perspective, it’s never been a more exciting time to report on the public sector. That’s why I could not be more thrilled to be taking over the reins at PSE at this key juncture. There could not be a feature that more perfectly encapsulates this feeling of imminent change than the article James Palmer, mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, has penned for us on p28. In it, he highlights... read more >
