The Welsh Government has announced that it is contributing investment to almost 40 community projects around the country.
A share of more than £4.3 million is being committed to 38 projects across Wales, ranging from churches and football clubs to biodiversity and financial support. This investment will ensure that the facilities that house these projects can be maintained or improved to continue serving communities.
Coming through the Community Facilities Programme, organisations will be supported to invest in their spaces, with some examples of funding including:
- £300,000 for the development of a Homeless Hub on Anglesey
- £95,000 for the refurbishment of Denbigh Town Football Club
- £100,000 for a new community volunteer building in Caerphilly.
Wales’ Cabinet Secretary for Culture and Social Justice, Jane Hutt, said:
“The Community Facilities Programme is important in helping organisations improve facilities so local people can benefit from them in their day to day lives.
“I was pleased to recently visit Gorseinon to hear the exciting plans they have to create more community facilities within the Church space.
“Each recipient of support from the programme provides a crucial service to the people they serve and it is great the Welsh Government is able to help them do even more.”
The aim of the funding programme has been to increase opportunity and prosperity for people in communities across Wales, with this ensuring that people are engaged and empowered. This can be done in a range of ways, such as providing access to local services, empowering residents to develop new skills, or addressing the climate emergency among other things.
Whilst local authorities cannot apply for the funding, organisations applying are encouraged to partner with an organisation within the public sector to support delivery and ensure that communities are properly supported.
