LGA awards funding for councils as part of Digital Pathfinders Programme

The Local Government Association (LGA) has announced the nine successful councils in its new Digital Pathfinders Programme.

A total of 75 councils in England were shortlisted through a competitive bidding process.

The LGA designed a programme to support councils seeking to innovate and develop pioneering initiatives to advance digital inclusion, digital connectivity and cyber security.

It will also help local authorities whose work will offer a positive example to others in the sector through sustainable change programmes.

The successful projects are:

Digital Inclusion

Leeds City Council
London Borough of Havering
Norwich City Council

Digital Connectivity

Dorset Council
Nottinghamshire County Council
Rochdale Borough Council

Cyber Security

Copeland Borough Council
London Borough of Redbridge
Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

Commenting, Chairman of the LGA’s Improvement and Innovation Board, Councillor Peter Fleming said:

“I would like to pass on my congratulations to all the successful councils who we are helping to transform their services as part of our Digital Pathfinders Programme.

“As place shapers, councils have a fundamental role to play in helping enhance and improve the digital connectivity of their local areas. The pandemic has brought to light the growing importance of digital technology and connectivity in the day-to-day lives of people in our communities.

“Many councils have been taking great strides in digital transformation, improving their service delivery and bringing the vital work that councils do on a day-to-day basis closer to their residents.

“We want this important programme to help efforts to improve digital connectivity, accelerate digital inclusion and keep services and residents safe from the threats surrounding cyber security.”

The Digital Pathfinders Programme is part of the LGA's Improvement Support Programme, which is funded by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
