Combined authority adds experience to management team

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has announced that it has made additions to its corporate management team, to support it as it evolves.

Approved at the authority’s meeting last week, Janice Gotts will come into the role of Executive Director Resources, taking over the responsibilities of the most senior finance officer, whilst Matthew Cumberbatch will become the Director of Legal and Governance, as well as Monitoring Officer, taking on the authority’s most senior legal officer position.

Janice has a wealth of experience in local government across a number of county, unitary and metropolitan councils. Currently overseeing finance and performance at North Northamptonshire Councils, she has previously worked at Manchester City Council whilst also providing senior support to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Speaking on her appointment, Janice said:

“I am delighted to be joining the Combined Authority at such an exciting time and to be involved in taking forward its ambitions for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It is a real honour for me to have been given this opportunity and I look forward to working with new colleagues, elected members, and partners across the region.”

Matthew is currently the Director of Law and Governance at Warrington Borough Council, with his experience covering lawyer roles within local authorities such as Telford and Wrekin Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Matthew added:

“It is a real privilege for me to be joining the Combined Authority at this time and I am really looking forward to the new challenge.”

The gap for the incoming officers in the early summer is being created by the departure of Nick Bell (Executive Director Resources and Performance) and Edwina Adefehinti (Director of Legal and Governance) as Nick retires and Edwina leaves after completing an interim contract.

Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, commented:

“The Combined Authority is continuing to bring in the skills and experience we need to support our work building sustainable, inclusive growth which benefits the whole region. I welcome Janice and Matt to the Combined Authority and look forward to working with them.

“I would like to thank both Edwina and Nick for all the professional support they have provided to both me personally and the Board in their time with us.”
