Local guide to boost Green Deal schemes
A new online guide aims to help local authorities promote the Green Deal, the Government scheme to create more energy efficient homes.
The Green Deal sees environmental technology installed in homes, with the investment paid back through savings on energy bills. Launched this January, it got off to a slower start than expected as consumers struggled to see the benefits.
The new guide was developed by the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies, and can be individually tailored to different local areas. The website explains the measures covered under the scheme, as well as a ‘jargon-buster’ and updated news.
Cathryn Hickey, executive director of the National Skills Academy, said: “Local authorities have a commitment to understanding schemes like the Green Deal; not just to benefit their own housing stock and tenants, but also to inform the wider community in ways to save money and reduce their carbon footprint.
“Educating everyone is no mean feat; our Green Deal online guide provides a point of reference that is easy to understand and will be kept up to date as the Green Deal evolves.”
