Just three of new sustainability and transformation leaders from councils

Just three council leaders have been chosen in the latest round of overseers for a scheme meant to improve links between health and social care.

In total, 41 of the local leaders for implementing the sustainability and transformation plans (STPs) in their area have now been named, leaving only three areas without a leader.

However, PSE’s sister title National Health Executive reported that all but three of them are from NHS trusts or CCGs.

The three from local government are Sir Howard Bernstein (chief executive of Manchester City Council), David Pearson (director of adult social care at Nottingham City Council) and Mark Rogers (chief executive of Birmingham City Council and president of Solace.)

The new list of STP leaders raises concerns that a plan meant to improve connections between health and social care will end up being dominated by NHS leadership.
