Four senior posts disappear as council appoints assistant chief executives instead

The Isle of Anglesey County Council has appointed two new assistant chief executives as part of a wider process to "streamline" its senior management, aiming to save at least £250,000 by scrapping the post of deputy chief executive, and three of its corporate director roles.

The appointments of Annwen Morgan and Dr Caroline Turner, both of whom come from Anglesey, were confirmed at the council's full meeting last week. Morgan has been headteacher at Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern since 2007, while Turner is a senior civil servant with the Welsh Government in Cardiff.

Anglesey chief executive, Dr Gwynne Jones, said: "I’m pleased to announce the appointment of our two new assistant chief executives and officially welcome both Annwen and Caroline to the Isle of Anglesey County Council. They will be starting their new roles shortly, and I very much look forward to working with them.”

The new assistant chief executive posts will form an integral part of the Council’s new Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

Council leader, Cllr Ieuan Williams, added: “This decision to streamline our senior management will bring Anglesey in line with other North Wales authorities as well as providing significant efficiency savings as part of the 2016/17 budget proposals.”
