Enfield council submits application for 2,300 homes in London
As part of its next phase of the £6bn Meridian Water scheme in north London, Enfield council have submitted plans for 2,300 new homes on the site.
The application is the largest ever submitted to the local authority, and has been accompanied by a second application setting out the strategic infrastructure required to support the proposed new homes.
Plans for the Meridian Water development aim to create a “vibrant” riverside community.
A minimum of 40% of the new housing is due to be affordable, while the application also includes the option to include purpose-built student accommodation or large-scale, purpose-built shared living accommodation and a hotel.
The submitted plans also include constructing commercial, retail and social infrastructure along the riverfront, and a new three-form entry primary school with supporting infrastructure.

The announcement came after the development partner for the delivery of the first 725 homes at Meridian One – which was part of Phase 1 – was announced. A new developer for Meridian Two at Leeside Road, which will form part of the Phase 2 site, has also started.
Enfield council’s leader, councillor Nesil Caliskan, said: “Our proposals for Phase Two of Meridian Water will, if granted planning permission, provide thousands of homes and first-class infrastructure.
“It will play a significant part in the council’s plans to provide thousands of new homes and jobs on the site, which residents will be the primary beneficiary of.
“Enfield council’s corporate priority is to provide much needed housing and jobs for local people, growing the local economy, and enhancing our local communities.”
