CLG Committee endorses Sir Edward Lister as HCA candidate

The Communities and Local Government (CLG) Committee has endorsed Sir Edward Lister for the position of chair of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

The DCLG, which is responsible for making the appointment, had put Sir Edward forward as its preferred candidate.

Following a CLG Committee hearing on 14 June, where the cross-party group of MPs examined a range of issues, including the challenges facing the HCA, Sir Edward’s skills and experience, they concluded that he is a suitable candidate for the post.

CLG Committee chair Clive Betts MP said: “The HCA has an important role to play in delivering the government’s housing targets and regulating the social housing sector.

“On the basis of the evidence presented to us, we believe that Sir Edward has the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to undertake the role of chair and we wish him well in the post.”

HCA’s former chair, Robert Napier, left his post in December 2015.
