Anglesey and Gwynedd welcome regeneration funding of nearly £1m
The Isle of Anglesey County Council has welcomed new funding to help revitalise local towns.
Housing and regeneration Minister Carl Sargeant announced four more schemes to improve communities in Anglesey and north Gwynedd, sharing £975,000 in Môn a Menai regeneration funding.
The council said that £160,000 has been awarded to support the refurbishment of the
Sail Loft Amlwch Port as part of a strategy to develop it as a tourist destination. The Listed Sail Loft will be refurbished to create a modern café and restaurant.
Another £195,000 has been approved to support the refurbishment of a
derelict warehouse on Prince’s Pier in Menai Bridge, while Gwynedd and Anglesey Councils have also been successful in bidding for £500,000 to continue with a programme of property and environment grants in town centres.
The county council’s economic development portfolio holder, Cllr Aled Morris Jones, said, “It’s great to see the continued positive effects of the Môn a Menai regeneration on Anglesey. Tourism plays a hugely important role in our economy and we will continue to work with our partners to promote the Island as a premier destination. These regeneration grants will help our efforts to revitalise both Amlwch and Menai Bridge and play an important part in raising their profile as important tourism destinations on the island.”
Anglesey Head of Economic Development, Dylan Williams, added: “This funding will help refurbish two historical locations on the island, aid our town centres to flourish and also add significant value to other ongoing strategic projects initiated by the county council.”
