Nottingham City Council seeks 1,600 new care workers
Nottingham City Council is recruiting 1,600 new care workers to support vulnerable people in the community during the coronavirus crisis.
The Council is calling on people in its region to come forward and take on a new role as an essential care worker as pressure on public services continues to rise.
Those who are elderly, vulnerable and unable to leave their home rely on essential home care workers to support them. The new recruitment drive is looking for as many as 1,600 new people to fill positions to join the fight.
All roles are fully paid and cover a range of care worker roles, with particular need for homecare workers, supporting people who are isolating or have recently returned from hospital to carry out everyday tasks.
Cllr Adele Williams, Portfolio Holder for Adults at Nottingham City Council, said:
“Our care workers do an amazing job of making sure people are being looked after in our communities.
“While our doctors and nurses will continue to care for those who are extremely unwell with Covid-19, it is the council’s responsibility to make sure everyone in our city is supported through this crisis. We can only do this with the right number of care workers to support our citizens.”
Previous care experience is not necessary as the roles come with full training, all that’s needed is a desire to help others. Individuals in need of a DBS check will be able to obtain one, paid for by the council.
Interviews will be carried out remotely - over the phone, with application support given and if successful, work will be assigned close to homes of applicants.
While people are already submitting applications to work as carers, the Council says more are desperately needed to cope with rising demand.
Cllr Williams added:
“I’ve been moved, like everyone, by the ‘Clap for our Carers’ events happening on our doorsteps every Thursday evening. We are all aware of how important our carers are; they have shown time and again that they are essential in keeping people safe and supported. Many care workers will continue working over the bank holiday weekend to keep residents safe and well. We need more people who are prepared to come forward to join their ranks.
“Our message to people in Nottingham is simple: your city needs you.”
