Plastering over the cracks
Allocation of funding from the Priority School Building Programme has been announced, with many schools missing out on infrastructure improvements.
A replacement for Labour’s Building Schools for the Future scheme, the new programme has only as fraction of the capital and far more modest aims when it comes to rebuilding crumbling schools.
Perhaps this is more realistic than Labour’s far-reaching scheme, dreamt up in sunnier financial times, and these improvements could be achieved within a faster timescale.
It’s a time of tough decisions and there simply isn’t enough money to fix it all – focusing on the schools that urgently require attention will have to do, for now.
