Westminster reshuffle sees major changes in transport

The Government’s reshuffle has led to a host of new faces in transport and good news for female ministers and MPs.

Michael Moore has been sacked as Scottish secretary, replaced by Alistair Carmichael. Don Foster becomes the Lib Dem’s Chief Whip and peer Baroness Kramer becomes transport minister. Norman Baker has moved from that post to the Home Office, replacing Jeremy Browne.

For the Conservatives, Sajid Javid has been promoted to financial secretary from junior Treasury minister, while Mike Penning moves to Work and Pensions. Robert Goodwill becomes a transport minister, Matthew Hancock is promoted within BIS and Nicky Morgan moves from Government whip to economic secretary to the Treasury.

Helen Grant moved from junior justice minister to DCMS, and Jane Ellison replaces Anna Soubry as public health minister. Soubry has moved to the MoD.

Labour’s Stephen Twigg is replaced by Tristram Hunt as shadow education secretary and Jim Murphy moves from defence to international development. Rachel Reeves replaces Liam Bryne at Work and Pensions.

Alistair Burt, Mark Prisk, Mark Hobon, Simon Burns, Chloe Smith and Richard Benyon have all left the Government and will return to the backbenches.
