Tower Hamlets to finally appoint top job role

Tower Hamlets is set to appoint Will Tuckley as its new chief executive and head of paid services, having lured him to move across from the top job at Bexley in east London.

Tower Hamlets Council members will receive a recommendation in a meeting next Wednesday to confirm the appointment of Tuckley.

The council has had no permanent chief executive since July 2011, partly because of political disagreements among councillors over a suitable replacement.

In November, the then communities secretary Eric Pickles MP recommended that Tower Hamlets recruit a permanent chief executive alongside two other senior council officers, as well as draw up an action plan to improve “failing” governance.

Labour’s John Biggs was elected as mayor in June, after the previous incumbent, Lutfur Rahman, was removed for corrupt and illegal electoral practices in April, when the High Court declared his election void.
