Stop and think

The Welsh public sector has been warned of the cost of bringing in external consultants without considering other options or whether the move is value for money for taxpayers.

The report highlights the need to use public money more wisely and improve the way different parts of the sector work together. Better record-keeping and collaboration within government could see a major expense limited, freeing up funding for investment and growth.

Hiring an external consultant should never be the first response to a problem that could be solved in-house. Thinking through the alternatives is vital to ensure that all decisions are based on hard evidence.
