Serious case review library to protect against child abuse
A new central repository will allow child care professionals to learn from serious case reviews (SCRs), the NSPCC has announced.
In collaboration with the association of independent LSCB (Local Safeguarding Children Board) chairs, the NSPCC will make the reviews publicly available to increase learning. The data will be available here from October.
Karen Childs Smith, head of knowledge and information at the NSPCC, said: “SCRs are no good if we don’t learn the lessons from them. SCRs tend to raise the same issues over and over again and part of the solution is to enable social workers to have access to this information. We are grateful to the Association for its support in building this resource. Working Together 2013 states that professionals and organisations protecting children need to learn from their own practice and that of others and we believe this is a fundamental aspect of achieving that objective.”
Sue Woolmore, chair of the Association of Independent LSCB Chairs: “There’s no doubt that a national repository for published SCRs will prove an invaluable asset to all LSCBs. Publication of SCRs is of little value if professionals cannot find them, have the time to read them or digest the messages they contain. This partnership creates an excellent opportunity to share learning in a way which will be meaningful and easily accessible.”
