Huhne and Pryce on early release from prison

Former cabinet minister Chris Huhne and his ex-wife Vicky Pryce have been freed from jail after 62 days. The pair had been convicted in March for perverting the course of justice and sentenced to eight months in prison.

Under terms of their early release, Huhne and Pryce will have to wear electronic tags.

After months of denial, Huhne eventually pleaded guilty to illegally passing on his speeding points to his then wife in 2003, and Pryce’s defence of ‘marital coercion’ failed. They have yet to hear how much they will have to pay in legal costs to the prosecution.

The prosecutor, Andrew Edis QC, told the court last month in an application for costs: “All of this occurred because Mr Huhne decided to do everything he could to try and get away with what he had done and gave in only at the last minute when defeat was inevitable.”
