Highways England to spend £114m on road improvements

Highways England has pledged a £114m package (July 28) to improve well-known motorways and major A roads over the next 12 months.

The planned package of enhancements includes road resurfacing, bridge repairs, cycle lane creation and improved landscaping and signage.

The £144m will be invested into 150 schemes across Norfolk, Sussex, Essex, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Buckinghamshire.

The A14 Brickfield bridge will have the existing bridge joint bearings replaced, as well as concrete repairs, resurfacing and renewed road markings.

Four bridge joints on the M11 junction 11 Mill bridge will also be replaced, with re-waterproofing carried out on the deck of the bridge.

Other schemes will be completed on the A14 junction 32 Histon and the M11 River Granta bridge, installing more than 80 traffic signs, improving 17 junctions, installing 16 bridge joints and 2.7 miles worth of cycle lane improvements.

Highways England’s Regional Director for the East of England Martin Fellows said:

“Keeping our roads in good condition is essential for safety and in ensuring the reliability of journeys for drivers. This multi-million-pound investment will help keep journeys on our motorways and A roads flowing and reduce the risk of unplanned, disruptive maintenance.

“Over the next 12 months, we’ll be working hard to ensure drivers throughout the East enjoy a smoother experience while travelling on our roads.”
