Highland Council makes planning notices more accessible
Information about planning proposals in the Highlands will now be available online, via a new website, the council has announced.
The Highlands Council will use Tell Me Scotland, a site which will enable users to find digitally public notices concerning public applications in their local area, track previous notices stored in archives and check particular routes in case of restrictions or road works.
Additionally, users can receive messages of new notices cropping up in specific parts of the Highlands, via texts or e-mails. A free downloadable iPhone and Android app are available on the website, giving users the options to receive notices on the go.
Tell Me Scotland is linked to Highlands Council’s own online planning portal, which has an option for users to register their postcode and search preferences to receive planning applications, and has also been picked up by other Scottish councils. Published notices will then be available to read on Tell Me Scotland.
According to Cllr Thomas Prag, chairman of the Planning, Environment and Development Committee, the site features all planning applications dating back to February 2010. He adds that as an accompaniment to the listings, “people can view a map which plots the physical location of the applications which is very helpful”.
The current system of placing newspaper adverts in the local press will not be subsumed by Tell Me Scotland – the site will complement it.
