Government organisations named top employers for LGBT staff
Nine government organisations have been named among the top 100 employers for LGBT staff, making up a substantial part of this year’s list.
The Top 100 Employers list, drawn up by the LGBT equality charity Stonewall, found the National Assembly for Wales to be the most inclusive government employer, ranking it in joint fifth with MI5, followed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service which fell at number 13, and the Welsh government in 25th spot.
New entries included the House of Commons at 28th and the Scottish government at 50th, while the Office of National Statistics, the Land Registry and the National Crime Registry also made the 2017 list.
Stonewall’s government sector lead Maria Martins, said: “It’s encouraging to see an increase in Top 100 Employers from the government, with representation from England, Scotland and Wales, and a total of nine organisations in the list.”
Martins particularly praised the National Assembly for Wales for retaining their place in the top 10 and “continuing to inspire other governmental organisations, as well as the country, to go above and beyond to promote diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and wider community”.
The Top 100 Employers list is compiled from employers’ submissions to the Workplace Equality Index, a benchmarking tool used by employers to assess their progress on achieving LGBT equality in the workplace.
The Home Office remains a Star Performer on the list as a consistent exemplary performer in the Index, in recognition of its very well-established LGBT network and its efforts to create an inclusive workplace.
Lloyd’s Banking Group were named Employer of the Year, with Pinsent Masons, J.P. Morgan, Clifford Chance and the National Assembly for Wales and MI5 making up the rest of the top five.
