Derby council sacks long-suspended senior officer
A senior council officer at Derby City Council has been officially dismissed following a 10-month suspension.
The council has confirmed that strategic director for resources Roger Kershaw was dismissed with effect from 16 April. Kershaw has appealed against the decision.
An email from Labour council leader Ranjit Banwait, seen by the BBC, said: "The strategic director for resources has been suspended and, following the IDC meeting on March 28, 2015, has now been summarily dismissed."
The email also pushed for acting chief executive Paul Robinson to have his position made permanent and assume Kershaw’s former duties.
Kershaw was originally suspended last July for undisclosed reasons. While the council continues to refuse to disclose the reason why he was let go, PSE understands it involves a troubled job evaluation scheme, which had been intended to equalise pay for male and female staff but led to a raft of claims concerning anomalies.
Derby subsequently employed consultant Hay Group to complete the process at a cost of £1.2m.
