Camden Council to appoint director as new chief executive

Camden Council is set to appoint Jenny Rowlands as its new chief executive.

Rowlands is currently Camden Council’s executive director for supportive communities having served in the role since 2016, and will now take over from chief executive Mike Cooke in March.

Her appointment will need to be ratified by councillors later this month at a Full Council meeting after Cooke announced that he is retiring after seven years at the councils.

The council’s leader, Georgia Gould, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Jenny Rowlands as chief executive of Camden Council, she is a familiar face in Camden.

“We are very fortunate to be able to appoint someone of Jenny’s calibre. She has extensive experience of leading and inspiring staff, of transforming services, and of involving communities in her work.

“This stood out clearly during the recruitment process and will be key to us delivering Camden’s priorities through Our Camden Plan.

“Jenny is absolutely committed to our vision that, in 2025, Camden will be a place where everyone has a chance to succeed and nobody gets left behind – a borough that works for everyone and where everyone has a voice.”

Martin Pratt has been recommended for appointment as deputy chief executive after being at the forefront of innovation in the people’s services, transforming children’s and adult services to focus on prevention, according to Gould.

The council boss added: “I am really proud to have such a dynamic and experienced leadership team taking Camden into the future and we are committed to working with our residents to bring Camden 2025, our ambitious community led vision to life.

“I’d like to thank Mike Cooke for the work he has done during his seven years as chief executive, which means that Jenny will inherit a modern, progressive organisation.”
