Barnet CEO leaves ‘by mutual agreement’ after elections chaos
After voters were turned away from Barnet polling stations during last week’s local elections, the chief executive of the council has left his post.
The problems at Barnet occurred after hundreds of voters were told they weren’t on the electoral register.
A council spokesperson said: “Following the events during the morning of Thursday’s elections it has been decided, by mutual agreement, that Andrew Travers, chief executive, will leave the council.”
The council also said they were carrying out a full independent investigation into the problems, including how they occurred and whether there is a risk of similar issues affecting the European Union membership referendum next month.
The results of the investigation are expected by the end of May.
Travers said: “I have enjoyed my time at Barnet and I believe the changes we have put in place and the continued programme of growth and transformation will enable the borough to continue to thrive.”
