£9m additional Future Cities funding awarded
The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) has awarded Future City funding to a further three cities, after Glasgow earlier won the competition for £24m to become a test bed for future innovation.
Bristol, London and Peterborough will receive £3m each to develop elements of the integration plans they created for the competition.
Bristol (pictured) will develop its Citywide Living Lab, to enable civic engagement; Peterborough will build on emerging eco-technology with their Innovation Pool and Skills for our Future to facilitate interaction between businesses and SMEs; and London will develop 3D mapping of utilities as well as a micro-work programme with online management platform to facilitate 2.2m hours of paid employment every year.
The TSB said: “In building a community of live Demonstrator projects there will be greater opportunities for these cities and others around the UK to learn from each other and explore integration across a wider range of systems than was possible with just one demonstrator. This funding will facilitate accelerated innovation into city systems by UK firms and help to establish the business value case so critical for implementation.”
