eclipse maternity information system goes live
Huntleigh Healthcare’s eclipse maternity information system (eclipse MIS) has gone live at Bradford Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Bradford Teaching Hospital manages up to 6,000 births per annum with 18 delivery rooms, making it one of the largest units in the country.
The move from their old paper based system to eclipse MIS will enable staff to spend more time providing the highest standards of care for mums and babies and less on administration and paperwork.
System ‘go-live’ occurred on the 23rd January with the first birth being registered on the system at 18:08. Over 400 users are registered on the system, with more to be added as the system is expanded to include care in the community and other areas.
One of the decisive factors in choosing eclipse MIS as their maternity information system was the its flexibility, allowing it to be customised to meet local needs. This has enabled them to expand it to support the Foundation Trust’s ‘Born in Bradford’ project, which aims to be one of the world’s biggest studies which will help to pinpoint the causes of disease.. The project aims to recruit more than 10,000 babies into the study over the next 2 years, and will track the children’s progress from pregnancy to adulthood.
Dawn Jankowicz, midwife project manager, said, “The new system means that there will be a huge reduction in paperwork and duplication of records. Eventually all paper records could be phased out. As we begin to recruit mums to the ‘Born in Bradford’ project, the new system will also help us collect clinical data which will benefit the study enormously.”
Midwife Alison Powell added, “The new system will mean that we get to spend extra time doing what we want to do – being with women and babies.”
eclipse MIS is the latest addition to Huntleigh Healthcare’s extensive maternity portfolio, which includes baby cots & beds, Dopplers, fetal & patient monitors and complete integrated software systems covering all aspects of maternity care. Huntleigh Healthcare has been active in the maternity market for over 25 years, and in maternity software systems for over 20 years, with an installed base of over 200 maternity software products & systems worldwide.
