Over 100 voluntary organisations gain funding to provide services for vulnerable people

The first winners of new funding for small voluntary organisations helping disadvantaged people have been announced.

The Local Sustainability Fund is a £20m Cabinet Office fund for voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations with an income of £100,000 to £1.5m a year which provide vital services to vulnerable and disadvantaged people.

It received over 1,000 applications and has now awarded funding to 265 successful organisations, 133 of whom were announced today.

The grants include £73,813 to Nottingham Women’s Centre, £54,480 to Tracks Autism in the East of England, and £97,918 to Age Exchange in London.

It comes at a time when the voluntary sector is increasingly supplementing struggling public sector social care, which the Local Government Association (LGA) warned recently is “at breaking point”.
