IT professionals urged to lead broadband services

Heads of IT are best placed to bring broadband to areas of theUKcurrently without it, the association of ICT professionals in local public services, Socitm, urges.

A new report suggests that councils need to use the national broadband programme to build upon by developing their own initiatives. Additionally, the public sector must work together to make the most of existing assets, including infrastructure, and overcome legal and commercial barriers.

The briefing also states that IT professionals have the necessary expertise to assemble practical design and businesses cases for local initiatives.
