Award winning council workers

The winners of the 2009 Local Government Council Worker of the Year Awards were announced at a gala dinner in Harrogate at the end of the LGA's annual conference

44 finalists in ten categories mingled with ministers and local government executives at the only awards ceremony that recognises the efforts of front-line council staff.

Hosted by broadcaster Jeremy Vine and featuring an address from new Communities & Local Government Secretary, John Denham, but the real stars were the council workers themselves.

And the winners are…
