Uniclass Enterprise IT solution ordered by Wealden District Council to support £4m waste services operation

The waste management function at Wealden District Council accounts for an income in excess of £4,000,000 per annum. The Uniclass IT solution from ROCC has supported Wealden in the delivery of these waste services since 1992. Replacing the aging system with the new browser based Uniclass Enterprise system will increase functionality, improve internal efficiencies, assist with the provision of an improved service to the public and enable Wealden to meet e-government targets.

The new system will increase efficiency through the reduction of manual data input and improved sharing of knowledge within the department. This is to be achieved through greatly enhanced search capability within Uniclass Enterprise, easier access to essential waste management data for personnel via Wealden’s Intranet and the ability to access data from remote locations using GPRS links.

The order for a 40 user system includes services, such as project management, technical consultancy, data loading, hardware configuration and training, and consists of a number of modules:
• Call Centre Logging
• Property Database
• Diaries and Appointments
• Remote working licences
• Cesspool Module

ROCC will provide an improved reporting function using Crystal Reports. The system will interface with other core systems at Wealden including SIA Datamap (GIS), Docuware (Document Management), Radius Powersolve (Corporate Financial System), LLPG (Property Gazetteer) and Precia Molen (Weighbridge tickets).

ROCC will also be supplying the server hardware and software (Windows 2003 Server and SQL Server 2003).

Uniclass Enterprise (UE) is a technically advanced business management system developed for waste management operations within local government. Using the latest technologies, UE enables local authorities and private contractors to successfully manage individual contracts from high level strategic planning through customer contact to service delivery and KPI reporting.

Covering 323 square miles, Wealden is the largest district in East Sussex, and is home to some 140,000 people. Half the population lives in five main towns: Crowborough, Hailsham, Heathfield, Polegate and Uckfield. Its many responsibilities include housing, planning, building control, waste collection, recycling, emergency planning and economic regeneration.

Devolution, restructuring and widespread service reform: from a journalist’s perspective, it’s never been a more exciting time to report on the public sector. That’s why I could not be more thrilled to be taking over the reins at PSE at this key juncture. There could not be a feature that more perfectly encapsulates this feeling of imminent change than the article James Palmer, mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, has penned for us on p28. In it, he highlights... read more >
