Taking combined authorities to the counties
At the moment there is a tidal wave of councils looking to merge functions and create combined authorities.
For the most part, though, this had been spearheaded by authorities in urban areas. However, Derbyshire County Council, along with the Derby City Council and the eight district councils, have started talks.
In doing so, they are the first non-metropolitan group to embark on this journey. Local councillors also have ambitions to go to a public consultation on the combined authority in the new year, with plans to submit to the government in spring 2015.
