New guide released to identify fake protection equipment

A new guide to identify fake and illegal personal protection equipment (PPE) has been published by the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF), to ensure workers are protected.

All PPE is required to meet certain CE standards and is given official certification to confirm it has met them. BSIF has launched a new CE Certificate Checklist to identify counterfeit and illegal CE certificates more easily.

Cases of counterfeited certificates have increased on PPE products, which could endanger lives or prove fatal if the PPE does not perform to the required standard.

The checklist has been distributed as a leaflet and clarifies how to spot an illegal or incorrect CE certificate and how to raise inconsistencies with suppliers and relevant authorities.

The establishment of the Registered Safety Supplier Scheme (RSSS) allows users to identify reliable PPE suppliers, as companies who have signed a binding declaration that the safety equipment they offer meets the appropriate product performance standards, is compliant with the PPE Directive and carries legal CE certification, can display the RSSS shield.

The guidance can be found at www.bsif.co.uk

Devolution, restructuring and widespread service reform: from a journalist’s perspective, it’s never been a more exciting time to report on the public sector. That’s why I could not be more thrilled to be taking over the reins at PSE at this key juncture. There could not be a feature that more perfectly encapsulates this feeling of imminent change than the article James Palmer, mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, has penned for us on p28. In it, he highlights... read more >
