Housing Consortium becomes Northern Powerhouse partner

The Northern Housing Consortium (NHC), a membership body representing around 90% of housing providers across the North of England, has today (Jan 15) become the latest member of the Northern Powerhouse Partner Programme.

The Northern Powerhouse is a government vision for a connected and thriving North, able to compete and contribute to the global economy.

Transport, skills and world-renowned civic and business leadership are some of the main focuses for Minister of the Norther Powerhouse Rt Hon Jake Berry, to level up the North of England.

The NHC works with its unique membership of 145 local authorities, ALMOs and housing associations to achieve housing policy that works for the North.

Chief executive, Tracy Harrison said:

“We are proud to become a member of the Northern Powerhouse Partner Programme.  We share an ambition to invest in the supply and quality of the North’s housing offer, supporting our members to create great places to live and enabling the North to become a magnet for new business and talented people.

“This exciting new collaboration will help us to ensure housing plays an important role in the Northern Powerhouse agenda.”

The Partner Programme is helping government to grow a strong network of partners with a common agenda; unlocking the potential of the North and uniting government and business to achieve it.

Minister for the Northern Powerhouse, the Rt Hon Jake Berry MP, said:

“I am excited to welcome the Northern Housing Consortium as a member of our ever-expanding network of over 300 Northern Powerhouse Partner organisations.

“The Consortium’s commitment to creating housing policy for the North by the North with an improved quality of life at its heart builds on our £3.4bn of Local Growth Fund investment to spur regeneration and build new infrastructure throughout the Northern Powerhouse.”

Devolution, restructuring and widespread service reform: from a journalist’s perspective, it’s never been a more exciting time to report on the public sector. That’s why I could not be more thrilled to be taking over the reins at PSE at this key juncture. There could not be a feature that more perfectly encapsulates this feeling of imminent change than the article James Palmer, mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, has penned for us on p28. In it, he highlights... read more >
