Back to work
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has come up with a way to manage benefit cuts and the total cap due to be rolled out from July. Investing in a work programme will help many residents reliant on welfare to find, and keep jobs.
For many, the benefit changes could push them ever-deeper into poverty, but despite significant opposition, the government looks set to stay its course with total reform of the system.
Councils should take heed of RBG’s example, and consider how they could set up new roles and help those who need it most to enter the workforce.
